The David Eccles School of Business is pleased to offer an experiential learning program for incoming freshmen called Business Scholars. The program is for students who are prepared for a comprehensive immersion into the theory and practice of the full spectrum of business disciplines. This small class will spend a year examining case studies in five areas including: marketing, entrepreneurship, accounting, finance, and management. Each case study will culminate in a site visit with the possibility of regional travel. Likely case studies will include a professional sports team for marketing, a regional airline for accounting, a startup ski company for entrepreneurship, a national apparel retailer for management, and an investment banking firm with ties to Pacific Rim startup companies for finance.
Admitted students will enroll in the Business Scholars Seminar course (BUS 1150) for both fall and spring semesters of their freshman year. Students will participate as a cohesive group in the honors-level, cutting-edge case studies that will be presented by top-level faculty and industry professionals both on and off campus. Students will also receive special preparation to compete in the job market for meaningful summer internships with top local and regional companies.
Business Career Services
The Business Scholars program focuses specifically on preparation of students for the rigors of the job search with the goal appropriate career placement. Students will receive tailored, professional one-on-one and group setting counseling from a dedicated team of career counselors. Specific focus will include interview preparation and mock interview experience, in-depth career opportunity exploration, professional business dress counseling, and professional presentation substance and style evaluation. Housing and Residential Education.
Business Scholars students will receive the highest level of program benefit by living in an on-campus environment. On-campus living will provide for a richer student life through involvement in Business Scholars and other university extracurricular experiences, as well as provide opportunities for development of stronger student relationships. The Business Scholars program has reserved 30 spaces in Honors Housing for Business Scholars students.
With the help of dedicated David Eccles School of Business academic advisors, students will be counseled throughout the Business Scholars program to understand the spectrum of career opportunities available to them. The one-on-one relationship established during the program will continue throughout each student’s undergraduate business school career in an effort to fully utilize academic tools for professional success. Scholarships
Business Scholar applicants will have an opportunity to apply for scholarship opportunities that are unique to the Business Scholars program.
Students must complete the online Application for Business Scholars.
The program has very limited enrollment and is therefore selective. The committee will use the information collected in the application to make admission and scholarship decisions. This includes academic achievement, as evidenced by high school transcripts and test scores; as well as accomplishments outside of the classroom, as evidenced by the answers to the short questions and optional resume.
